Overview

This course is designed to turn a student with little to no English reading ability into a confident English reader. It starts from the very basic phonics sounds and reading and, using helpful reading strategy tricks, builds until the student has a comprehensive understanding of phonics and is able to read English well. This course also focuses on improving pronunciation through both understanding phonics and the use of phonemic awareness to identify and correctly reproduce all the sounds in the English language.

This isn’t anything new, going back as early as 1995 researchers Moeller & Meyer researched the positives of using books in early childhood second language acquisition.

They found that since children’s literature makes use of natural language patterns in familiar contexts that the students can relate to, that it helped the students to make connections and recollect those language structures much faster.

Not only learning to read, but learning to love reading, leading to independent reading for fun, is the single greatest factor in future educational success. That is why the phonics and reading course is so important.
